Curious : Cleopatra or Hatshepsut?

Posted by & filed under .

I’ve come across quite a few different portions of the web in the past while trying to understand the different things about Cleopatra VII and Hatshepsut.

For those of you who don’t recognize one or the other, Cleopatra VII was the Caesar one. And Hatshepsut was the female king.

Now, what I’ve been dying to find out since I’ve seen all the magazines with Hatshepsut plastered all over their covers for history, is…

Which of the two do you think is most influential and why? If you aren’t sure. Could you let me know what common ideas you know of based on hearing either name?

Personally, I’ve read about a few common misconceptions about Cleopatra…like being a slut to Rome. Many forget Cleopatra VII was one of the leading minds of Egypt during her reign. She had good knowledge of architecture and science and even believed to have been a bit of a scientist herself…Many would actually come to her to be able to speak with a like mind. Hatshepsut also wasn’t just a female king. Her mortuary temple – The Temple of Hatshepsut in Deir El-Bahri is known even more than the monuments of Ramses II.

Anyways…rambling. Let me know what you think about either?

I personally hope Cleopatra was the drugged up, slutty queen she is made out to be just because if not a lot of people will loose their cool halloween costume ideas. Although a transgender queen is pretty rockin too. Perhaps you could post a list of what they both accomplished and some facts for those of us “historically challenged”

i hope that hatshepsut will come to be notice just like cleopatra for me hatshepsut got on the throne the right way she didn’t kill her brothers and sister to remine on the throne hatshepsut just had lots of supporter to help keep her on and if you ask me i think cleopatra is a whore cause she slepted with ceaser to stay on the throne then when he was killed she slepted with mark antony to also stay on the throne and she had mark kill her sister and her baby brother was pioson and ceaer killed her other brother so i find her devil from hell

Hatshepsut is known in her own right. While I am much more of an enthusiast about Hatshepsut’s history, it is utterly appalling that you gave such an opinion on the last Pharaoh.

Hatshepsut married her half-brother. Meanwhile she was rumoured to have been having a love affair with Senenmut. Then took the throne from her step-son after her husband died. She is no more innocent than any other Pharaoh of Egypt. It was commonplace to behave in such a manner.

The only difference is that the Romans decided they didn’t need Cleopatra anymore, and so launched a campaign of slander and defamation of character in order to ruin her in the eyes of history forever.

You prove that theory. It’s unfortunate that you do not know of the intelligence she harboured behind that defamation. She was being treated like a whore, when she was a queen and still she kept her head high. She is to be respected. I doubt many could withstand what she did before she was killed.

Having said all that. Thank you for commenting, but please try not to be so narrow-minded next time.
